We have a Woodpecker nestbox in our wood where we live but blue tits are using it although the hole is about 200mm, is this not dangerous?

Sorry for late response - I noticed nobody had already answered. I agree with you, the blue tits are living dangerously. Perhaps they are new to the nesting game, but if the nest is attacked, they will learn to find a better spot for the next brood. Alternatively the predators might not think of looking for eggs/fledglings in such an exposed spot! I hope they are lucky.

Thank you for the response. Actually, I have by now put up a nestbox on the outskirts of my garden and it has had the effect I have been waiting for, the blue tits have 'moved out' of the woodpecker nestbox and into mine.
Thanks, Lucca |

At least they have a much better chance - and much better (and a relief) for you too.
