Being fairly new to bird-watching I am really keen to observe a kingfisher - start with a difficult one I say!!.

Any detailed locations(s) would be appreciated.

Talk about a million-dollar question!

Canals, lakes, lowland rivers ...

Whereabouts in Wales are you? Do you have a local nature reserve or RSPB reserve?

Hi Emma, I live in Wrexham and have recently followed up 'locations' given to me by people I have met but without success. Locations need to be precise and not, for example - on the River Severn in Shrewsbury -

Tough question I know but perhaps someone out there has an answer.

Cheers

I did a quick search on Google:

It suggested Treetops Fly Fishery near Wrexham (I used to live in Chester!)

Many thanks - you are obviously much more experienced with the web than I am - can I ask you a further favour...

I have been attempting to obtain colour photographs of birds - books are not the answer and the photos for sale by the RSPB are prohibitively expensive.

I was given a web address named "subbuteo" but all I get is the "football game"!!

The name "subbuteo" is a supplier of books and, supposedly, photographs. Have you ever heard of them?

Cheers

Hi Dave,

I think this is what you are looking for:

http://www.wildlifebooks.com/data.php?page=home

That is the Subbuteo Natural History Books website - not sure about photograph side of things, though.

Dave,

This might be of help if you are willing to go through the list:

http://www.graphicsngraphicdesign.com/freestockphotos-graphicdesigners/

Scroll down a little bit until you see "LINKS TO FREE STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY SITES ON THE NET". Then there's big list of websites with free-to-use images.
That's not to say any of them will have bird photographs - but you never know.

Are you looking for photographic prints of birds or just photos for your computer monitor? Most photographers will charge depending upon size of print you need.
Here's a few of my friend's sites where they sell prints
http://www.majorwildlife.co.uk/index.htm Major Gilbert
http://www.nature-pictures.co.uk/ Roger Wilmshurst
http://www.nigelblake.co.uk/ Nigel Blake
http://www.digiscoped.com/birdgalleryhome.html Andy Bright

If you simply want a photo on your monitor (for personal use only), a simple google image search should present more photos than you could ever imagine
