Does anyone have the problems I have with the hanging bits on seed feeders- those ones with a loose top with a thick wire passing thru which is bent at the ends to fit into little slots in a plastic bar passing thru the top of the feeder.
Mine are continually falling down if a heavy bird gets on and the are an awful job to put together each time I refill. Any ideas?

Could you be putting the handle on back to front? I had a similar problem and when I rang CJs they suggested I could have the handle in the wrong way.
I've just had a look at my feeder. You need to ensure that the 'L' shaped hook of the hanger is facing away (backwards) from you when the gap in the bail is facing you. If its the wrong way around it can ping out. It's difficult to explain but try that.
Good luck and hope this solves the problem

Dear HRH
Not sure if my handles have a back to front but will try turning them round both ways. Thanks

Hello, I had the same problem with the feeder falling from the wire so I emailed CJ's and they kindly sent me instructions on the proper way to fit the wire handle. There is a right and wrong way and it is so easy to fit the wrong way as I had with the feeder always falling to the ground.
Give them a try,
Ben.

Dear Ben
I have contacted CJW as you suggest - the more people who do so perhaps they will improve the design. One of my defender feeders has slightly longer L shaped ends to the handles and that one is fine, but all the others seem to have Ls that are too short and they just pop out whichever way I try to fit them. Am thinking of getting my husband to try and bend new ones with a vice and wire coat hanger. Or better still doing it myself.

Hello Rita,
When you get the instructions from CJ's you will find the design of the handle is fine, just as long as they are fitted as they should be, as per instructions, and not the wrong way as I had, allowing them to come loose from the feeder
