Hello,

I am new to this forum so bare with me!
I have a nest in my garden, am not sure what type of bird she is but her eggs are blue (could it be a Starling?).
Major problem in that I have 3 cats, 2 of which are obssessed with her and the nest. She has been around for about a fortnight and I am doing everything I can to protect her but I'm not sure how much longer I can save them. Yesterday I found 1 of my cats actually sitting on top of the nest (I freaked). Fortunately she came back but this morning I haven't seen her.
Could anyone please advise as to what to do. I really want to save these birds and see them hatch. I know I must not move the nest and I am keeping the cats in as much as possible. If she doesn't come back today, how long can the eggs survive without her warmth? Would it be possible to raise the babies myself or am I fighting a lost battle? Please please help.
Thank you
Sam:confused: :(

If you haven't seen her all day then she may have abandoned the nest - which sounds likely if she saw a cat sat on it.

If it has been abandoned then it's better that it happened before the eggs hatched, rather than after.

There's nothing you can do (or could have done) other than keep your cats in at all times. The nest and birds stand NO chance once they have been found by a cat.

It's not going to be feasible for you to raise chicks if you have three cats. Plus, it's not something to be taken on lightly. If they eggs haven't hatched you'd need a incubator!

Your best option is to get rid of the cats ;) ;)
