We have a medium size back garden but we have starlings nesting in their box, great tits, blue tits and a wren making a nest in a batbox. We are really excited and can't wait to see the results! Also, is it unusual for a wren to nest in a batbox?
:) !!!!

That's one of the things I miss about not having a town garden - apart from one wren's nest (in a dry stane dyke), and the sparrows who prefer under the eaves ( ) to a tasteful sparrow terrace - nests tend to be invisible!
Sorry, MH, can't answer the batbox question but if you and family are on Mull and fancy putting up some bird boxes # let me know - I fall off ladders!
Let us know how the wren gets on. Cheers, Jenny

A properly designed bat box shouldn't allow access for birds. It has been reported on many ocassions that the actual nest has ended up covering the entire entrance hole and the birds (parents and nestlings) have not been able to get out and have died inside.
Also, if birds can get access to the box, then the hole is probably too big for a bat box.
