Since I started feeding the birds a couple of years ago I have seen the following in the back garden.. those marked with * are here pretty much every day at present.

Grey Heron... not so welcome as I have both fish and frog ponds
Sparrowhawk ... again not entirely welcome
Collared Dove *
Woodpigeon *
Great Spotted Woodpecker
House Martin * (nesting and breeding)
Wren *
Robin *
Blackbird *
Song Thrush
Mistle Thrush
Goldcrest
Long Tailed Tit
Blue Tit * (nested and fledged young)
Great Tit *
Jay
Magpie
Starling (very few)
House Sparrow * (nested and breeding)
Chaffinch *
Bullfinch *
Goldfinch *
Greenfinch *
Siskin

There seem to be a lot of young finches about. The greenfinches and goldfinches seem to be in the trees dawn to dusk every day.

I have serval feeders, the birds eat about 10kg of sunflower seed a month on average, although the last 10kg bag only lasted 3 weeks!

I can understand you're mixed feelings about getting the sparrowhawk, though I guess we should take into account 10 years ago we would be unlikely to see one, as they were very rare.

As for the amount birds eat, wait until the winters kicks in!

I must confess that the one bird that has me reaching fomy camera is the sparrowhawk.

As for food consumption I find that it is the summer months when the goldfinches and greenfinches arrive by the dozen when most food goes. I seem to have a lot of collared doves at present, not the birds I aim to feed but they are of course as welcome as any others.
