While neighbours on both sides were having BarBQs, took myself down to the back fence - away from the smoke!

Hi sally. Great series of pics. Love the intense expression on number 1.

Yes she certainly is and there are some young about. Two very mischievious little buggers. Have just managed to get an image or two after a lot of trying. Will post when I have ppd them.
Thank you both.

sallyh: Nice series. I see you have one of the wooden squirrel feeders set up. I used to have one but after about a month of use I saw the squirrel just snap off the lid with little or no effort. Since then I have a metal one and some of the plastic on the front has been eaten away so they can have easier access to their peanuts.

Thanks Gandalf & Sazzie :D :D
Gandalf, I've had to repair the lid of the wooden box, the little blighters snapped the original plastic hinge but otherwise it remains in pretty good condition which isn't bad as I have had it many years. I've also got a metal feeder this year & so far it is still is prime condition. Sadly I've not caught them on that one yet with my camera.

I thought these poles were squirrel proof - clearly not :(

No, not on their own they're not.
They do slow them down a fair bit compared to most others; have you noticed they can't easily stay still on them otherwise they slide back down most often.:)
For more cover you need at least a guardian, and possibly one of the two baffle types available. However if you got a guardian the baffles don't matter a whole lot as the squirrels can get to the feed anyway! All they do is waste their time trying it on with a guardian. ;) It's worth it for the look of sheer disbelief on their faces too!
I'd imagine the baffles that CJ do might work out, most of their stuff does, and quite well too, as far as I have noted.
Anyway, setting all that aside for a moment, these are nice pics!:)

Hi sally. Have exactly the same set up as you, I got the pole extention and a base as well but the blighters can still get up if they wish. I also make sure the hanger on the top of the feeder is right down. They don't go up as much now because they know they can get up but have great trouble getting at the peanuts because being so high up the pole will easily over balance.
Excellent series of images by the way.

Thanks folks :) . I might try a guardian just to see them puzzled for a few mins. My squirrels race up the pole I think they are very grateful to me for providing them with another toy. Still it makes for fun photographs

They'll mostly run around and around and around it (they clearly can't count!), and try every conceivable angle and a few others besides, but they won't beat it! I had to wire the lid down but after that it's been Game Over ever since.

Hi Sallyh,
I'm not sure if you have a joint in the pole that holds the feeder, I have a patio feeder and what I have done which defeats the squirrels is to get a plastic plant pot six to 8 inches in diameter and cut a hole in the middle of the bottom that is the right size to fit snugly at the joint or maybe just beneath the feeder in your case. If you put the plant pot upside down they can't get past that and it's a nice cheap way of doing it and defeating Cyril the squirrel -- -- -- lol
Best,
Alastair:)
