The baby robins in our mini-greenhouse started leaving the nest yesterday evening.:( The three biggest ones left, to scatter round the garden, leaving the three smaller ones to spend another night with mum and extra TLC without being squashed by their siblings.:)

This morning dad robin was taking mealworms into the nest, and appeared to be teasing the babies in there, trying to encourage them out. By 10:30 this morning they had all left the nest, but the last one decided he/she didn't quite want to leave the safety of the mini-greenhouse. Eventually at lunchtime he/she took the plunge and hopped down to then do a quite stylish little maiden flight (flutter) across the garden into the holly tree, followed by dad robin who was very keen on keeping an eye on him/her.

Here are some pics of Baby No. 1 and Baby No. 6. Hope you like them:D

I feel totally bereft now my babies don't need us anymore.:(

But, on a lighter note, my hubby was doing the washing up last night (yes, he's well trained!!!) and from the kitchen window he saw mum and dad robin up to hanky panky in the holly tree!!

I can see that maybe the nest is going to be used again very soon!!!!!

It is now 2 weeks today since the first 3 babies left the nest and 2 weeks tomorrow since the other 3 left.

Mum and Dad robin continue coming into the garden, for food, and we were hopeful that she may take up residence in the nest again for a third lot. Especially as we installed a small spy camera to be able to view the goings on from the television.

However, on the bank holiday week-end the rain and wind were so strong that the mini-greenhouse fell over and the plant pot with the nest in it fell out.:(

The following morning we put everthing back, hoping that it would not put her off, but unfortunately it must have done, because the day after all the heavy rains ceased she did come back to check out the nest but must have been able to tell that something had happened. She flew out and hasn't been back to the nest.

She must be building one elsewhere, outside of the garden, as we do see her now and again, begging mealworms from dad robin, but he seems to be doing all the feeding of the babies who are still around in the garden. We can hear them in the holly and have been lucky enough to see 3 of them begging food from dad.:)

I took these couple of photos the other day - I think they are baby no. 6 who was the last one to leave the nest. :D
