Great photo brigitte, must be nice to be able to see foxes that close. I haven't seen a fox around here for a few years now sadly.

Thanks Dougie

He is round every night, usually waits in the bushes 'til he's called!! I've taken several pics of him, but that one has always been my favourite so far, he doesn't mind pics being taken or a flash going off - he's more interested in the food. A bomb could go off while he's eating and he wouldn't look up!!

Ahhh... He's a beauty!! :)
He sounds a bit like my dog regarding food! LOL
I haven't yet seen any foxes near my new house yet, strange, as i have seen deer???

Cheers Debbie

It is very good to see positive replies - with foxes there is sometimes a negative response on some animal messageboards, especially from chicken keepers!! Makes a pleasant change.

Lovely photo - I don't know why there should be a negative response to Foxes - they are part of our life.

I have been on a couple of forums, unfortunately where some members disagree with me being 'friends' with a fox!! Had loads of people telling me to get rid of it, kill it, how dare I attract vermin, and so on, shame really people can't live and let live. It happens, I'm afraid - just got to stick up for yourself - repeatedly!!

The most vociferous were people who kept chickens or were into shooting (and calling it pest control), and only see foxes as enemies. These forums are about self sufficiency and downsizing, and there are a lot of people like the above as members, pity the ones who supported me kept quiet, except for private messages in case they were targetted!!. Luckily I have a pretty thick skin, and gave as good as I got.... Funny enough, the ones who had the most to say lived at the other end of the country, so our fox is nowhere near their chickens!!;)

Well - just had a great surprise, the vixen seems to be quite happy to run about too in the garden, along with him, just been watching the pair out there. She normally runs away if she spots anyone, but she was happily running about with him just below the window - she didn't seem bothered by me at all. Very surprised!! Got another mouth to feed now! :)

Its amazing how much some people like to argue on-line (bet most ain't half as bad in face to face), and over the stupidest of things!! I cant believe people didn't even stand their ground with you & just PM you that's so sad, don't worry no ones like that on this forum. We're Nice!!
Although if i do have some thing really strong i believe in (ie, all the bad press on bull dogs, its how a dog is brought up not the breed what makes them daft/attack etc. I'll not go into it but you get what i mean. LoL)

Also soo glad to hear about the extra mouth now :D

Thanks, Sally.

Trying to get a pic of the pair, as both come into the garden now - if I'm lucky before dark. Got the camera by the pc.... Vixen is very shy, but hopefully patience will pay off and I can post a pic of both together.

Well, blow me! After saying I hadn't seen a fox around here for years I saw one this morning :D I was just taking my dog for her morning walk and there he was, in broad daylight and as bold as brass, just trotting along the edge of the field. Maybe he has been here all the time and I just hadn't seen him. Made my morning though.

A lot of the other people in our block say they never see our foxes, yet they are round every night, depends how long for!! Usually at least half an hour running around hoovering up the food put out.

In your case, Dougie, you say field, which is probably why - if you live in a rural setting then the foxes are probably less common to see. Even though they are probably there all the time, it is down to pure luck that you get a glimpse,as they are normally a lot shyer in the country! With us, I have told all my neighbours when they are normally around, and they sit indoors with their windows shut and their curtains drawn..... Which is why they don't see them.

Me, I never draw my curtains, (we are surrounded by trees anyway - only time I draw mine is to stop the sun shining on the TV, so I can see it properly) and unless it is pouring with rain, and the rain is coming in the window stays open all year round, night as well. I wait until they are there before I feed them anyway, as the local cats end up pinching it - and there has been many a stand off between cat and fox!! Fox never hurts the cat, but a lot of spitting and hissing from both sides until one slopes off.

What a handsome fox. I haven't seen a fox in the garden, although he left his footprints in my nicely raked veg bed last year. I caught sight of him/her along the road in the early hours after picking son up from a party - unfortunately it is a very mangy, sad looking beastie.

we have been watching a family of foxes for a while now. mother and 3 cubs, and occasionally we see other fully grown ones, which we think are dad and a female from a former litter who acts as nursemaid to help mum. we love to see them but for the past 3 weeks they haven't been around so often. we think mum moved the cubs to another den further along, which i read they do sometimes. they are just across the 4 railway tracks at the bottom of the garden, but railtrack are now putting up a high fence, so i don't know if we will be able to spot the foxes for much longer. very disappointing, as we love to see them!

Nice shot! I can hear them around here, not yet seen one face to face though, but all in good time I suspect!:) Some one gave me a tip off about where they lurk around here, so it's just about timing now.

Might go infra red filter route to get images. Been meaning to try that for ages. The filters are not too pricey thankfully. We shall see.

Thanks. We have just had new people move in downstairs and they are often out in the garden talking on mobiles, well one is anyway. And they do it at the time the fox is due to come round, luckily they don't seem bothered, they are East Europeans (Georgia) and a bit loud - so I was a bit worried at first that he would be scared off. But they are nice people, think they are more intrigued by his presence than anything, saw the husband standing watching him the other night, think they don't mind animals.

Only prob when they first moved in I got the heebeegeebees because they were talking quite loud outside my window for several nights running, and last week there were children running around at 11 pm squealing and teenagers messing around. And near to where the fox had his food, and he was trotting around the car park at a distance as he couln't get to his food because of all these kids. Next morning a polite but firm note about it went through their door - and they did apologise, since then it has been much quieter. I feel a right moaning minnie, but at the end of the day I felt I did the right thing - and the fox gets his food in peace now!!

arent they just brilliant, great pic thanx a lot. i also live in the country and was lucky to see a fox chasing a rabbit in the field, and that was just after i moved here, yet the 3 house owners living by the field for years and years have never seen one. so my luck was in, mind it was 5am in the morn and i was out to feed our horse. i used to see dozens in wales, i bought a million candle watt lamp with infra red and used to go out at night and see foxes and badgers. keep those pics coming they are awesome.
