We were out for a drive on the country roads when we spotted a few phesant that had probably escaped the shoot. They are such beautiful highly coloured birds I had to take a photo. Not really wild birds but once escaped they do fend for themselves. They are normally quite camera shy and run off at great speed at the slightest noise, I know this as I have run after a few trying to catch up to them. This one seemed to be a little less shy ! :)

There's a fair few where we live too and sadly I've noticed several that have been hit by cars and other vehicles. I have had to slow down and cross the road on many occasions these last few weeks.
Lovely pics btw

I know what you mean Honeysuckle! Unfortunately they have a habit of walking along the roads! I often wonder if any survive from one year to the next. I have seen quite a few pair up,or a male with 2 or 3 females but not sure if they are successful at rearing young in the wild.

They do seem to have a death wish don't they? I see them by the side of the road sometimes and they often make a dash to the other side just as you approach. It's a sad thing to see so many killed on the roads. They are beautiful birds, but a bit dim I think. Great pictures though.

I think that's the unfortunate truth. I don't think they grasp the concept that those large metal things won't always stop for them..
Great pics fruitgums :)

I suppose they just aren't street wise! They have been caged reared in some protected cops some where, then let go free and left to get on with it
