View Full Version : Guardian - How to Fit?

I've got the large feeder guardian from CJs, and a medium and a large Defender seed feeder. For the life of me, I can't see how to fit the guardian over either of the feeders. The top of the feeder just won't fit through the hole at the top of the feeder. There's a removable bit at the top of the guardian, which has two slots that fit the hanging loop of the feeder. But the actual top of the guardian, where the removable top fits to when twisted into the slots, doesn't fit the hanging loop at all, I can't get anything to fit through the top of the guardian, never mind then fit through the removable bit afterwards

If someone would be so kind as to give me some hints on how to fit the guardian, I'd be grateful, thanks!

Hi Starlight,
I think the key maybe to remove the top of the feeder itself (on one side of the stout wire that holds the top on, the pin going through the feeder has a sort of quick-release slot).
Needless to say then pull the pin out, take the bottom off the guardian and slot the feeder in from the bottom up, and then put the top back on the feeder and you're set.
And you don't have to go through this to top up the feeder (but it does make cleaning it easier).
As with most of these things it's easier once you know - and I speak having recently solved the same conundrum myself!.
Good luck, Stephen

Thanks tarling - I really do think CJs should include a visual "how to" with the guardian as it's not exactly evident how to fit it.

I can't get the pin (spindle?) that holds the hanging wire out of the top tube in order to get the top sections to fit and the top section of the guardian won't fit through the 2nd (loose) top section unless the pin is first removed.

Quite honestly, it's all far too fiddly for me to do. I also find it fiddly trying to get the hanging wire back into the pin the right way round. So I give up on trying to use it... if anyone wants it, please let me know and I'll see if I can post it to them :)

Not being one to give up too easily, I tried it on my other Defender feeder, and lo and behold, I could get the pin out of that one. So, I finally got the guardian fitted to it :D . It's still quite fiddly to do though...
