Hi Rockin Robin
It may be that the birds havent yet discovered that there is a fat cake in the feeder. It can take them a while to get up the courage to investigate something new in the garden, this is often the case with new feeders and nest boxes. There are a couple of things you can do to help.
If the feeder is initially hung very close to cover then this will encourage the birds to investigate the new feeder and discover the fat cake. Once they are comfortable and familiar with it then you should be able to move this into more open space.
You could try breaking up some of the fat cake and putting this on the platform on the feeder and scattering some nearby which will encourage them to get closer to the feeder and find the fat cake.
Good luck.

Rockin,
I think it comes down to the birdies preference. I feed sunflower hearts, softbill ground mix and a 'suet treat' in my garden. All the birds ignore the 'suet treat' and it has been there for a month. The only bird I have seen on it has been a starling.

I have a similar problem with peanuts. They will eat the suet, sunflower seeds, mealworms, sultanas and I did occasionally catch the starlings, tits and finches on the peanuts but they just didn't eat enough and the peanuts went mouldy so I have given up on that feeder now.
