My wife snapped this pheasant this morning and tried to identify it in our few bird books but wasnt successful. Can anyone out there help? I bet it is a simple answer but we are stumped!!!

Yes, it's a Common ( Ring-necked Pheasant) Phasianus colchicus. They are not averse to wandering into rural, even not so rural, gardens to take advantage of some seed on the ground. The cock (as this one is) is often a spectacular sight, although your example looks a little bit pale.

:) Thanks very much for your prompt reply to our question. We have seen quite a few Pheasants here but that one really confused us. It has been pretty busy here these last few days with the sunny weather and we saw a pair of redwings for the first time yesterday.
