i have noticed cj's premium peanuts are much better than many other peanuts from different companies. They are larger have a higher calorie content as well as seeming better quality thanthe darker, smaller other ones you can get.

Rockin Rob,
Are you a salesman for C.J.'s, only joking. LOL. :)
Seriously though strolling around the local Morrisons last week I noticed a small display of wildbird stuff. I picked up a Gardman Fat Feeder for 99p and a block of Gardman Very Berry, or something like that, for 1.43. Bit of a saving over the few 'Online Shops' I've been looking at since getting into 'twitching' this last month. Even more so when you add postage.
Anyone else got a Morrisons near them they use I would be interested to know if this is a local phenomenon or are they a wildbird friendly chain. Looked in Tesco today and the prices there were astronomical, over 30.00 compared to 19.00 odd from C.J.'s for a 10kg bag of Sunflower Hearts !!
I haven't put the fat block out yet so don't know how they'll go down with the local birds.

I tend to put the safety of the birds before anything, and I know CJ are famed for their no compromise approach to the aflatoxin levels in the nuts they sell.
I'm never too sure if the birds are worried by the size of the nuts, but you do see some sorry looking nuts around.

Maisie,
Is it reasonably priced ??
I didn't look at the range they had in ours, there wasn't much there. But I did pick up the Suet Block and Cage Feeder as they were so cheap.
Did I mention, I don't work for Morrisons :D

To be honest, I haven't looked. I think we started our bird feeder collection after moving in about 2 years ago with the help of Morrisons and one of the Gardman pack of 3 feeders. Since then we've got to the stage of buying seed and peanuts in 25kg bags so the little bags of peanuts on the supermarket shelves get overlooked ;):D

Maisie,
Know what you mean about buying in bulk. We have only been in this new bungalow for a month and already into a 2nd 10kg bag of sunflower hearts, from CJ's..
I have my eye on a Gardman Deluxe Feeder, 4 feeding hooks, bath, mesh feeder tray and a thing with 4 hooks for fatballs. The only thing holding me back is the anticipated cost of keeping it stocked with food.
Never thought I'd be hoping to win the lottery just to feed the birds. :D

Always a good idea to check out your local pet / animal feed warehouses, or larger garden centre for bulk bargains.

Oh for a local Morrison's or Tesco! NO chance!
I'll be honest, and CJ know it, I buy specialist food off them because they're good value and I can get it but on a very limited (pensioner type) income as a carer, I have to shop around. I can get good quality peanuts through our local bird club using discounted bulk supply -only fractionally cheaper than CJ but saves them and me delivery and quality good - and same for wild bird seed (5Kgs/week and nothing left!) - but I do supplement with black sunflower seeds and extra sunflower hearts. What I save through this scheme allows me to afford nyjer seed, bird seed cake and hedgehog food and to keep feeders etc clean and up to date. And, now they do mealworm boxes - mealworms!! Though I still worry about sacks of mealworms being delivered!!! Where I'm suffering a problem is that there's a lot of building locally and more and more birds are coming in to top up on food through loss of natural habitat.
