It is so strange that in January we still have butterflies flitting about!

I think it's because the weather is so mild, they get fooled into thinking it's spring. We've even got daffodils coming up in the garden.

Yes I think your right, we also have daffodils showing their heads already and in my garden I have several bulbs appearing.

We have holly blue caterpillars on our firethorns at the moment!!

can we have this as a 'this is the butterfly i have seen today' thread?
i say this not only because i saw a peacock, brimstone and orange tip in my garden today, but because i want everybody to just say what they have seen, and the butterfly message boards are rather too scientific for most people.

Yesterday I rescued a rather battered peacock (flutterby) from the greenhouse and some bees. The start of many rescues! Also saw a brimstone on Friday so summer is coming - apart from the thick blanket of snow we had this morning! Actually since the sun came out it is very warm again - snow mostly gone from the grass - except for the huge mounds which went into the making of "Snowhenge"! Lots of bee activity, so they are making up for lost time.
