We went to Boscombe today to get rid of the cobwebs and a change of scenery. After consulting the birdy books, He man and I agreed that one of the birds we saw was a brambling. Our first - thankfully it's colouring made it easy for us to identify from the pictures.:D We also spotted a kestrel, great tits, black headed and herring gulls, more pesky pigeons (feral) and a crow having a dogfight double with a gull by the sea, and a flock of about 50 lapwings in the New Forest near The Rufus Stone.
The children refused to join us (my parents came too) and we were relieved to find the house still standing when we returned (probably they had only just got out of bed!). Sea air has worn me out, so night night all!

P.S. Emma - have bought some gelatine to try and make a seed ring - found my weedy flan mould after cleaning out a cupboard. More food ordered from CJ so will have a bash.
