if you give the birds peanut cakes. the empty plastic hanger can be used to hang apples,just push the apple onto the empty hanger and hang them up. good for attracting blackcaps, blue tits love them aswell.

Thanks for the tip, talking of suet cakes, the birds, esp. long tailed tits and coal tits love a log drilled with holes and suet pushed into the gaps; also, you can push twigs into the still - warm suet for perches for less agile birds!

If you know someone with a midge magnet, obtain a bagful of midgies and freeze dry (they ain't all dead!) and mix in with peanut cake mix for insect loving birds. It's one way of recycling!
