. . . if the Defender feeders are compatible with the Gardman feeding station?
He-man was given this construction for his birthday and there is one part that screws into the bottom of a feeder rather than hanging it. Are they all universal or will we be bound to purchase only Gardman products (I wanted to get the feeders with ring perches)?
By the way, hope you all had a great Christmas, and Happy New Year!
Regards, Kerry

basingstoke may have a large petfood shop which might help you. many large petfood shops carry gardman and cjw (via rspb) feeders and birdfood. the cjw challenger (plastic) and defender (metal) feeders all have the same screw-threads in the base.
if he-man's new feeding station is still nice and new and shiny, the shop surely won't mind if he brings it in to see if it's compatible - after all, they'd probably gain a sale that way.
beware some other brands of tube feeders have their screw threads placed higher up inside the base, which makes them incompatible with (e.g.) cjw and jacobi jayne feeder trays. i have a tube feeder with a domed lid which is incompatible in that way.
good luck.

Dear Storye-book
Thank you for the info. We have lots of garden centres around here that stock the Gardman products, but not CJ's. I only venture into Basingstoke if it is absolutely necessary - although it's not that bad really. I have no idea where the pet shop is - if there is one - but there are tons of clothes shops. The nearest garden centre to us is great for everything except plants! So for those I venture further afield for the proper nurseries.
As we are coming up for our anniversary, He man wants to stock the garden up with loads of bird feeders and nest boxes. That's fine by me - beats a watering can or a bucket (which is the sort of thing he usually gets for me:( )! As I am in charge of the wallet for more feeders and food:D , I shall order some from CJ's, as they do the Defender ones. I have a large seed feeder already that fits the thread, so if the new ones are not compatible it won't be the end of the world just yet, but I thought it would be nice for a smaller niger one to go on the contraption. Anything else can be hung from the trees or the pergola.
Thanks again, Kerry

hi kerry l
don't know if this will help - but if the tube feeder that you already have is a cjw one, then as i understand it, any other cjw tube feeder that you may buy will have the same thread arrangement.
please upload a photo to the forum when you get it all fixed together? it sounds interesting.
good luck
