View Full Version : Installing a nest box inside my workshop.

I know I'm to late for this year

I have just bought a nest box and installed in on a fence post covered by branches from the tree, I left the front open in the hope that next year I may get a robin to nest, it’s to far from the house to get a power supply there for a CCTV so any advice on this would be most welcome. (not the CCTV but the nesting box)

OK I have plenty of spare timber and decided this morning to build my own nest box and I was wondering if I cut a hole in the side of my workshop (on the East side) and install the nest box inside the workshop up against the hole, do you think birds will use it? they will only be able to see a hole from the outside but if they do investigate the hole they will see a nice new nest box in there. Do you think this will work?

In the lid of the nest box I have installed a colour CCTV with infra red so I would really love this to work, so any help on any of the above will be most welcome by a complete novice.

Hi jeff, I have seen simular on a garage. It was an olde building that was converted. The person put wood cladding and cut a couple of holes. Sparrows use it for nesting. I dont see no reason while your idea should not work. To me it seems a pretty good idea.

Thanks Pine Marten ;)

I was tempted to build a larger box for 3 nesting birds because I seen the plans on the www but after checking the size of the nesting box against the internal apex of my building it would have been to big, so Just opted for the single one.

I even added a perch on the outside so it had somewhere to land.

Hi Jeff, your idea of a perch outside although may sound good may turn out not to be. It means that larger birds that can prey on nest boxes have a leg up so to speak.
