On Monday last I went to the London Wetland Centre at Barnes, the very first time I'd been. I'd meant to go for ages, and I found out what I'd been missing. It was terrific, in spite of quite changeable weather including a hailstorm at one point! As well as the various lagoons, scrapes, reedbeds and marshland areas, with at least six hides, there is a World Wetland area, with water birds from all over. Hope you enjoy my selection of photos.

Had some trouble uploading my last pic on this post - here goes my second attempt!

Seems worse - only one pic , I think, uploaded this time. Wondering if, as well as a limit of five per post, there may be a total limit of photos posted per day, or something! Think I'll give up trying for now.

These include amongst others a pair of Hooded Mergansers, and a group with some Smews, Goldeneyes and a Moorhen, and finally a lovely clump of cowslips. I think the bird in the fourth pic with head under wing is a Ne-ne or Hawaiian Goose, but I could be mistaken. Memory not so good!

Last Lot! First, a general view across the main lake ( the 3-storey Peacock Hide nearest right), then a nearer view of the hide, the day's sightings, the Sand Martin nest bank (there were loads of them and Swifts as well on the wing), and finally the Highland cattle on the grazing marsh. All in all, a wonderful day out.
