Great set of piccies Simon... I love the stages you've captured....and the way the mother seems to be encouraging the chicks to follow her route. Wonder what she would have done if you hadn't had a bike there for them to jump on... it woul have been a long jump down without that!!! Jenny...

Love the sliding start to life Simon !! Is it unusual for that many eggs not to hatch?

Again, wonderful pics, Simon! It must have been funny to watch - I can just imagine them one by one sliding down the bike cover like one of those emergency chutes!

Simon, So glad she had still got 5 chicks, that's pretty good after a week.... she's either a very good mother, or has been lucky I guess...
Feeding the ducks and the birds so close to your boat is really giving some great close up pictures..
Bill reckons the brown one is a female blackbird, he says they are usually brown. He reckons it's his Mrs and he is giving her food to take back to the nest...... Any sign of the Moorhen's babies from the tyre yet? :)

The penthouse duck still has 5 under the jetty and the Jetty duck still with 7 waiting for me to come back from work and a new resident in the Penthouse should hatch 19th July, but i think we have had enough pics of my chicks this year unless its very spectacular. (i hear you all say here here)... Simon...

No, I disagree - can never have too many pictures of ducks & chicks. We have to see the second lot of penthouse duck chicks in July!! Amazing when you look at the first two broods - you can hardly tell the mother from the chicks... Jenny;)

Disagree, too. One can never see too many duck and baby duck photos! i am also surprised at how big the penthouse ducks are. Fast growth. Thats good - it gets them out of the danger size.:)
