Hi everyone, long time since I was here last.
I was inspecting my feeders for cleanliness this afternoon and got quite a surprise when I found something in the feeder tray that I wasn't expecting.
There are no nests in the immediate vicinity.
Can anyone tell me what kind of bird left it there, I'm thinking blackbird.

Strange place for an egg. It is more than likely to be a blackbird egg. It looks very much like one.
Pine Marten.

That's astonishing! What I'm wondering is, how did it get there? Squirrel or magpie, do you think, or something else?

Hi Jandy, I've been wondering the same thing myself and I still have no idea. The only thing I can say with any certainty is that the egg didn't come from my garden as the usual blackie nest site hasn't been used so far this year, whatever it was that left it in the tray brought it with them from elsewhere.

Hi Pine Marten, yes, very strange, stranger still is the fact that there is absolutely no sign of any damage to the egg which you'd expect to find if the egg was taken by a predator.
Jimbo...still

 I hadn't thought of that, you could be right:D
I was wondering if, perhaps, the blackbird in question was resting on the feeder tray and could have, somehow, been startled into popping it out:confused:
We'll probably never know what actually happened.

What a pity you didn't have a webcam trained on your feeder, Jimbo!
