I have just bought a Nest Box Colour Camera and would like some advice on using the light.

It is to be used for Blue Tits.
Should the light be on when birds are just "viewing"?
When birds are nesting, should the light be on 24 hours a day? Thanks for any advice.

Hi Peter

Welcome to the forum!

We recommend that the camera is turned off at dusk. Keeping the box dark during the night will reduce the risk of the birds being disturbed and unsettled by the light.

Good luck with your new camera nest box.

Lisa

Hi Peter

Welcome to the forum!
Thanks

We recommend that the camera is turned off at dusk. Keeping the box dark during the night will reduce the risk of the birds being disturbed and unsettled by the light.Would I be correct in assuming that once birds are in residence using the light during daylight should not disturb them?

Good luck with your new camera nest box.

Regards

LisaWe are replacing a nest box that has been used for several years with this new one. So we hope our first guests will come on time and we will be able to watch them!

Peter - you can leave the light on all day and it will not disturb them. Just turn the light off at dusk when they are settling down and they'll be fine.

Obviously, If you are switched on and ready you will be able to watch your birds inspecting the box before they even decide to use it. They will take little or no notice of the lights.

You may find http://www.biggonline.co.uk/ useful - Elizabeth and Malcolm have been broadcasting their nest boxes online for several years now and they'll be able to help you if you need any assistance. There is a forum there too - and we all love to hear about everyone's residents!

My nest box camera runs off natural light but we're having a few problems with it just now and we're trying to sort it out before the next nesting season begins.

Good luck with yours!

Emma,

Thank you for the info. Also the links to Elizabeth and Malcolm, together with yourself are helpful and interesting.

I look forward to meeting you in the forum during the New Year when our nest box is up and running.
