The Wild Life Garden Month by Month is outstanding and everyone who loves wild life should have a copy. It gives excellent practical help to those interested in 'natural' gardening, however small your piece of ground or balcony and how to preserve the habitats they need to survive. ISBN no: 0-7153-0033-4
Also, 'Bird Friendly Garden' by Stephen Moss ISBN no: 0-00-716935-3.

hi denise. if you want contributions to this theme: then here's mine - don't forget the cheap and cheerful shire publications here:
http://www.shirebooks.co.uk/Natural/natural-bl.htm#bir
they're excellent little monographs - serious enough to be interesting to the intelligent birdfeeder, but unstuffy enough to entertain the general reader. i've got two of them (wren and bluetit) and it's made a difference in how i arrange my garden for them, and in how much i understand what i'm watching through the window. enjoy.
