All through the year I usually fill up my 5 feeders with sunflower hearts at least once a day, and sometimes twice, but for the last 6 weeks or so most of my birds have vanished. Usual count was 5 goldfinches, 10-20 spqrrows, 10-20 greenfinches, numerous tits, blackbirds, several robins, chaffinches, starlings, dunnocks. Nothing has changed but most of the birds have gone and the feeders remain virtually untouched. Is it this freak weather? (Essex). Has anyone else noticed this?

The books say that garden birds tend to be absent or at least less numerous in early autumn, especially september and early november, due to plentiful autumn seeds/fruits. maybe the unusually mild autumn weather has compounded the effect for you. I'm guessing that they'll all be back with the first big frosts. It would be good to hear what happens next - please tell us when they start to come back?

I've had a similar experience, think it might be due to disease see other threads, but hardly any birds in my garden still.
