Thought I would share this with you as it may be of some help! I have robins nesting in my garden and the eggs hatched on Tuesday, I know this because of the frantic activity of mr and mrs robin carrying food into the nestbox. I bought some mini mealworms which I put into a ground feeder. Needless to say all the starlings ate the lot. Don t mind too much as am sure they have babies to feed, but would like my robins to have the lion share!! Rather than buy a feeder guard, I placed an upside down metal hanging basket over it. The starlings were quick to stick their necks into it. I placed a second one on the top of it and hey presto mr and mrs robin can enter it safely and take all the mealworms for their own little brood! The starlings just go round and round it and appear quite frustrated watching the robins with their beaks full!!
